COVID-19 Web Coverage

In March 2020, students at the University of Georgia left for spring break and didn’t return until August. In the midst of the confusion, The Red & Black temporarily suspended its print editions. The only edition to be printed that semester was an unprecedented one.

As an initial visual identity for web coverage of COVID-19, I extended the two color stripe system from the page banner.

This allowed for quick turnaround of visuals for constant updates in an uncertain period of time. The upper blue field contains a photo and the bottom red field contain two illustrations of the SaRs-CoV-2 virus from the CDC (which was created by a team of UGA alumni), both in duotone to maintain the identity’s consistency.

Later, when updates slowed and stories became more specific, I flexed the system to create more visual variety.
